Neuro-Ophthalmology
Neuro-ophthalmology has been a key part of clinical care and research since its formation at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 1978. This specialty area focuses on disorders affecting the eye and nervous system.
Today, a specially trained neuro-ophthalmologist offers services with the UMMC neurology and ophthalmology departments. Special interests include idiopathic intracranial hypertension, neurosarcoidosis, visual complications of migraine, and migraine and optic neuropathies.

- Diagnosis and treatment of diseases regarding the optic nerve, chiasm, and visual brain
- Diagnostic testing of pupil abnormalities
- Hemifacial spasm and blepharospasm, diagnosis and treatment
- Ocular motility disturbances, diagnosis and treatment
- Thyroid eye disease (Grave's disease) treatment
- Visual complications of hydrocephalus and elevated spinal fluid pressure, diagnosis and treatment
- Visual field testing and interpretation
